Started to play the accordeon from 18 years old and jazz piano from 22 years old. He recorded his first album Scenery in 1976, second album Mellow Dreams in 1977, third album My Favorite Tune in 1995 and recent album Ryo Fukui in New York in 1999. He moved from Hokkaido to Tokyo in 1982 and formed his own Trio and performed in various live houses. He performed at the jazz club Le Petit Oportun in Paris for a week in 1989, and held the audience spellbound. He also toured around as Super Trio with Leroy Williams(ds) and Lisle Atkinson(b), the regular member of the Barry Harris Trio. He now bases his activity in the live house Slowboat in Hokkaido while passionately goes around Japan to perform.
