Israeli-born Daniel Zamir started playing sax from his early teens. In 2000 he left the country for US where he spent 6 years and released his debut on Zorn's Tzadik (plus three more albums later).

After he returned back to Israel where he plays with local leading musicians and records albums, being one of most respectable Israeli sax players nowadays. His music has strong roots in Yiddish tradition but at the same time he is strongly influenced by modern American jazz. As a result his compositions are very melodic, light, really more jazzy than NY downtown avant-klezmer (Frank London,Masada, etc).

"Missing Here" is third Daniel's release on Israeli label Hatav Hashmini and it contains very melodic, light and pleasant listening, mostly acoustic, with relaxed rhythms and even one song with vocals ("Missing Here" - true bossa-nova!). Musically, he balances between John Coltrane and Jewish (Hasidic and Eastern European) traditional music, being somewhere in the middle. Catchy melodies and emotional musicianship are both really attractive elements of this release.
