Five years since their debut, and Magma finally gets around to releasing a live album, which is a nice thing to do. Magma was never known for a steady lineup, but key members on this album obviously include Christian and Stella Vander, Klaus Blasquiz, Didier Lockwood, and Bernard Paganotti (filling in Jannick Top's shoes). What you get here is a live performance of Kohntarkosz on the first disc (minus the two short pieces like "Ork Alarm"), and the second disc of previously released material, as well as material not available anywhere else, including some material that finally ended up in studio form some 34 years later on Emehtehtt-Re. They also do some material from Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh, but do the unexpected and go into a real intense fusion jam complete with nice violin work from an 18 year old Didier Lockwood! (it's only a surprise, given the much more structured nature of MDK). Given the jazz influence of this band, one shouldn't be surprised if they occasionally slip into fusion territory, and this is their furthest into fusion territory they went into (also helps that electric piano dominates). Another great album to have.
