As much as I love RTF, sometimes I feel Chick truly belongs in trio setting, seated at nothing but the 88 of a grand piano, this album undoubtably provides solid evidence of this. "Akoustic Band" contains some solid Chick original work along with some jazz standards that illuminates this album with nostalgic flare. Chick's "Autumn Leaves" is definitely on I would put in the Evans/Jarrett echelon of this tune. Chick's "Someday my Prince will Come" could also be my favorite interpretation of this piece. The "Akoustic" version of "Spain" deserves recognition as well although I still prefer the RTF "Spain." The dynamic performance on drum kit by Dave Weckl and the truly pocket bass work by John Patitucci lays the foundation for Chick to effectively shine and inspire.
