American singer and guitarist debut on Decca. During last decade she collected a lot of musical press and often was compared with Billy Holiday (" them both are known as jazz singers but in reality sing blues").

Main reason this album attracted my attention was Marc Ribot playing guitar on it. I can't say I disappointed - it is just another music, different than I expected from Ribot's participation. Not discussing similarities with Billy Holiday I would say Madeleine on this album sounds more like mix of Sheryl Crow and Johnny Mitchell. All music is warm, very acoustic, simple and intimate - but first of all strongly based on Americana (from folk to country). Songs come from Lennon/McCartney and Dylan between others, bigger part are originals though. Using of vintage keyboards and some simplistic electronic devices together is quite successful trick - music sounds timeless being very traditional and quite modern at the same time.

Being only slightly jazz-related this album should attract listener searching for catchy and non-boring relaxed intelligent Americana music. Decca worked hard to give pop-attractiveness to album's sound, but it didn't destroyed release too much. Just nice album for fans of soulful Americana with jazzy flavor.
