Psychedelic gamelan-jazz-fusion phenoms simakDialog playing live at Progday Sunday Sept 1st, 2013 in Carborro, NC in a beautiful setting called Storybook Farm. Indonesian based simakDialog traveled 25 hours by plane to come to play a short east coast tour in the USA and their first stop was Progday. The band is led by Riza Arshad on Fender Rhodes electric piano and with Guitar Phenom Tohpati as the perfect counter point to each other they weave delicate textures across the live stage. The band is further enhanced by three seasoned traditional Sudanese Kendangists led by Endang Ramdan with Erlan Suwardana and Cucu Kurnia.
Since their bassist Adhitya Pratama was not able to make the journey to the USA this time they brought along Rudy Zulkarnaen. As you will see in this video Rudy did a wonderful job assisting them on this tour his playing is top notch. Hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed their music.
Please excuse my camera work as I am in no way a professional videographer but I think I have managed to capture the spirit of the song. Their music really resonated with me and even though their set was cut short by a storm that blew in I had seen enough of the magic happen on the stage that I knew I must make the 7 hour journey by car to see them play again just a few days later in Baltimore, MD. I am so glad that I did!
