Multi-award winning pianist and composer Matt Choboter has been recognized with the 2014 Vancouver Mayor’s Art’s Award, 2014 Fraser Macpherson Scholarship and as finalist for the 2015 Julian Award of Excellence for Emerging Canadian artists. A recipient of the Mayor’s Art’s Award for Emerging Artist Matt was recognized by Juno Award winner, Brad Turner as Vancouver’s most promising emerging jazz artist. In 2016 he received a Canada Council study grant.
Matt completed his Bachelor of Performance from Capilano University in 2014 studying under Ross Taggart (Slide Hampton and Kenny Wheeler). The following year he recorded his debut album release, samskaras. His original music garnering attention through a Julian Award nomination. In fall 2015 – residing in Chennai, South India – he furthered his musical studies in the area of Carnatic rhythm and melody studying with 9th generation veena player/vocalist Karaikudi S.
