b. Chicago, Illinois, USA. As a child, Lavender studied piano and classical guitar. Later, she played steel guitar but developed her musical skills primarily as a singer. Her style artfully blends pop with touches of classical music structures and jazzy suggestions. On her second solo release, 2002’s Never Felt The Sun, Lavender was joined by guests including flautist Hubert Laws and composer Hugh Martin. The latter, making a rare appearance on record, accompanied Lavender on piano on his own song, ‘Here Come The Dreamers’, for which he also wrote the arrangement. Lavender’s songwriting is an important facet of her musical talent. For her songs she draws upon her life experiences, many of which reflect her home environment as a child and her adult life as wife and mother.
