César López, who’s nowadays considered one of the most important sax players in the Latin Jazz, started studying music when he was 10, in Cuban province of Camagüey. Only three years later, he won the 1st Prize in the Cuban Nacional Sax Contest. In 1985 he got a scholarship at the Escuela Nacional de Arte (National School of Arts) and, simultaneously, started his proffesional career with renown Cuban musician Bobby Carcasés, who introduced César to Latin Jazz. In 1988, due to his outstanding conditions as a musician, 19 years old César was choosen by Maestro Chucho Valdés to play the sax at the famous Cuban band Irakere. For 9 years César developed a fruitful international career with Grammy awarded Irakere, performing at the most prestigious festivals, theaters and clubs, which gave him the possibility of sharing the stage
