This album contains leftovers from the A&M albums Blue Delight and Purple Night. And it looks major label didn't see these materials could be valuable for release - all them are released by tiny German Zensor. Both Blue Delight and Purple Night are between most available Ra albums (A&M CD releases could be found almost everywhere) so everyone familiar with at least one of them (all three albums including Somewhere Else contain materials from same studio session)could expect what he will find here. Possibly it sounds strange, but for Ra true fan this album could sound more interesting than previous two! I don't think the mistake happened - A&M people made their job well choosing better finished, easier accessible and more catchy songs for their releases, major labels know their customers well. But as a result lot of more raw or just not so easy classifiable materials just didn't find their place and came as separate album few years later. You can find here almost everything you want - from swing and traditional big band pieces to quite free jazz compositions, some "spacey" pieces (ok - spacey on Sun Ra late 80s manner but still rooted in his past)and even some vocals. All material is well recorded and mixed and possibly the only moment for critics is all album sounds more as songs collection (what in fact it is). If you already own Blue Delight and (or)Purple Night and like them - take Somewhere Else, you will be pleasantly surprised or at least not disappointed. If you didn't hear no-one and would like to start from most adventurous one - just start here.
