This is the story of Bop Kabbalah - the latest project from composer/bandleader/guitarist Ty Citerman for Tzadik Records' Radical Jewish Culture Series. The band blends jazz, 21st century composition, klezmer, nigunim, rock and more in a quartet that features features Adam D Gold (drums), Ben Holmes (trumpet), Ken Thomson (bass clarinet) and Citerman (guitar). The music is intense and colorful, drawing inspiration from sources as varied as the Beat Generation, medieval Eastern European and Asian music modes and the rich depths of Kabbalistic mysticism. The video blends interviews with Citerman and footage from Flux Studios, NYC, where the band recorded its debut CD in December 2013.
Bop Kabbalah celebrates the release with concerts at Joe's Pub in NYC on June 2 at 7:30pm and in Philadelphia at the Little Shul on June 10 at 8pm.
