Funkadelic stand at a crossroads on Cosmic Slop, with a mixture of tripped-out psychedelic funk freakouts such as March to the Witch's Castle co-existing somewhat uncomfortably with more straight-ahead funk material such as Nappy Dugout. The imminent resurrection of Parliament to represent the more horn-driven and funk-focused side of the P-Funk psych-funk morass would soon resolve this tension, but for the time being it results in an intriguing album which will grow on listeners who aren't put off by the occasionally jarring changes in tone, atmosphere, and musical style. Then again, if you've listened to the preceding Funkadelic albums up to this point and enjoyed them you probably have broad enough tastes to cope.
