Howdy, Friends (his signature tune) offers a portrait of Ray McKinleys career to 1953. There are four rare tracks, otherwise unavailable, of a lively jazz group he led in 1936, which included Skeets Herfurt and Joe Sullivan. Prominent are the big hits he enjoyed with Jimmy Dorsey (The Love Bug Will Bite You) and Will Bradley a string of boogie-style smashes (Beat Me Daddy, Eight To The Bar . . .). Then there are 11 exuberant tracks with his own orchestra (Civilization . . .) and two with rhythm section alone (You Came A Long Way From St. Louis . . .).
