Warthur
Standing On the Verge of Getting It On is a decent Funkadelic album consistent with the style they had adopted since America Eats Its Young. Featuring particularly strong contributions from guitarist Eddie Hazel, it includes songs in a variety of funk styles, ranging from the goofy Jimmy's Got a Little Bit of Bitch In Him - Funkadelic's way of expressing support for LGBT rights in a typically blunt fashion - to the catchy Red Hot Mama and the bluesy I'll Stay. The album opens with a cosmic monologue that seems to be an attempt to recapture the opening of Maggot Brain, but if Funkadelic are delving a little into self-plagiarism at this point, at least the stuff they're plagiarising is top-notch funk.
