A dual disc with each side dedicated to a specific style of jazz, the first of which is drum-dominated African and Latin/Cuban jazz and the second to jazz as the Messengers usually do. Two totally different bands as well, but the artwork defiantly points towards the Drum Suite and my fave since it’s the more experimental of the two. Indeed, the Drum Suite band features up to three percussionists on top of Blakey. As for the Jazz Messenger side, it’s the usual suspects.
The four movement drum suite is definitely exciting and enthralling. However the JM side is rather conventional compared to its sibling, this despite the different songwriters
