The Fusion Project is born in 2005. Mel Gaynor as everybody knows is very often on the road with many artists (Sessions for Tina Turner, Elton John, Gary Moore, drummer of Simple Minds and we could carry on...) Mel performs drums clinic all over the world for Ludwig Drums. During his tour in France in 2004, he meets Stephane Deriau-Reine (session player for many artists). Separated for four month (Mel in studio with Simple Minds, Stephane on tour with Boots), they decide to play together for a succesion of Ludwig clinics. Straight afterwards, they hooked together for the beginning of a long story. Mel introduces Stephane to Jan-Olof Strandberg (at this time bassist number one in Finland and on the top of the vrtuosity, say the magazines). They perform a live gig in Frankfurt during the Frankfurt Musik Messe in april. June, Mel and Stephane are playing together for clinics
