Dell, Christopher (Renatus), vibraphonist, composer, author; b. Darmstadt, Germany, 17 September 1965. His parent's names are Thomas Dell and Anne-Barbara Dell (formerly Heinz).
While he was an infant his family moved to Ranchi, India, and then, five years later, to Heidelberg, Germany, (his parents divorced there in 1974). In 1974 his father and one brother and one sister (Nicolas, b. 1969; Eva-Maria, b. 1968) moved to Darmstadt, where they remained. Dell had piano lessons from about age 6, quit soon and then taught himself. From the age of 11 he had drum lessons, becoming dedicated to jazz from about the age of 15, and eventually obtaining one year of lessons in theory and harmony at the Academy of Music, Darmstadt.
From 1985-86 he studied Jazz at the Conservatorium Hilversum, from 1986-88 at the Conservatorium Rotterdam and in he received a scholarship at the Berklee School of Music, Boston and studied there
