Saw Space Cowboys last night. "You know where the old blokes do it". Fly me to the Moon "this version" was on it.

of the 3 albums i have of hers (the other 2 being Another Mind and Brain) Time Control is my favorite. The album is more Classic Fusion than her others which is more Post-Fusion Contemporary as she is listed here. I would go so far as to change this album's genre tag, but I would like to double check with the others here at the forums. anyway, i love this album. Ive listened to it about 7 or 8 times and every time i do, it's fantastic. One of the best fusion albums of the 2000s. It's one of those jazz albums I love to listen to at night. I may actually listen to it again later tonight, and maybe review it too. but right now im listening to...

^yeah, Time Control is definitely Hiromi's Fusion album. Although I think it would go in Post70s Fusion or something like that.

according to this site, she doesn't fit the criteria for Post70s Fusion. The thing is, the album is influenced by 70s fusion, as well as some older jazz, in terms of rhythm, but the album is completely modern, especially with Dave "Fuze" on guitar, his playing is a little radical. I know what you mean about Classic Fusion not being quite accurate.

Hey Pablo, check the definition for Post 70s Eclectic, its for those kind of punky 80s NYC bands like Blood Ulmer, John Zorn, Ronald Shannon Jackson etc, and the people who follow them.
Hiromi records will probably go in Classic Fusion or Post Fusion Contemp, she has none of that harsh NYC vibe to her music.

Another genre you guys should check out is JR Improv, its for talented rock musicians and others playing music influenced by AG jazz. Its home for Fred Frith, Henry Kaiser, ROVA Saxophone Quartet etc.

^yeah, I should have checked the definitions first before giving my opinion, lol. Will do in the future!
I thought that Post 70s Fusion was simply Fusion from 80s onwards, inspired by the "Classic 70s Fusion". But then I remembered what you told me about Classic Fusion, and well, I was wrong.

i think thats what Post-Fusion Contemporary is, but i'm still not entirely sure, i think........ Im still grasping all these sub-genres I have a couple of John Zorn releases and i thought he would have been filed under Avant-Garde Jazz, but i was wrong. i'll look into JR improv. I have some Back Door (which is where they are going in the database right?) but what else is good?

Don't add Masada (incl. Masada Books),Naked City and Painkiller albums to Zorn discog, they require separate entries

Yes, I agree that Hiromi's Time Control is more classic fusion (with Fiuczynski on guitar and her electric keyboards), so it looks we all agree - the album's genre could be switched to Classic Fusion.
Her other mentioned albums are possibly one of the best examples what Post Fusion Contemporary jazz is , I always compare its sound as standard for sub-genre. Another very typical Contemporary jazz sound example is Jason Moran.
BTW, I really like Time Control, she showed how old good fusion could sound not boring even now. And there is great drummer playing on this album (Slovakian Martin Valihora).
