Subject: What Are You Listening To
Date Posted: 18 Jan 2011 at 2:12pm

This Thread is a Must. Where else can you see music you are interested in and ask......."Whats that like? or brag about one of your many fave old ones, Because we all know what we we ourselves like personally must be the best music LOL One of the main attractions is also the quality that members play. It is always good to see interesting, well played music. There has been many artists that I have picked up myself via this thread. Anyway here is the first one.

When I click on insert image I get a server error Ermm sorry, no album pictures for now.

Anyaway, I've been listening to Louie Armstrong and Bootsy Collins.

Thats a great classic jazz album cover up there, but somehow I can't imagine Sonny Rollins being happy having to do a cheezy promo shot like that, ha ha.

I might have some stride piano, I have been digging through my big pile of records looking for stuff to review that is in the genres we haven't covered yet.. I'd say the only genres that we have on here that I am not real fond of are Ragtime and Dixieland, although I love the Original Orleans jazz that preceded Dixieland, something about Dixieland though. I think it has to do with the fact that when I was a kid in the southern US a long time ago, these amateur Dixieland bands would play at BBQs and other events and that music has never appealed to me. The original New Orleans jazz that preceded Dixieland is much more appealing.

I know what you mean John. I think it is more to do with the sound of some of those old recordings as well. Some are like distorted echoes. I would have loved to hear Jack Teargarden on Trombone with todays equipment in his prime.Drunk or notLOL I love the Hot fives and sevens and the old Billy Holiday on Columbia but I don't have that much 78 material in Jazz here. It was not long enough either the solos are done in a flash. Depends what it is too.

Posted By: snobb

For a moment, only Max can add MP3s there. The thing you could do is just upload chosen song in MP3 format and send link there. I will put it in the list MP3s to be uploaded I prepared for Max. Later I expect we will be able to add MP3 by ourselves, I will let you know then.

Found this in a second hand shop last night at work for $14.00 Aus Thumbs Up Out of Print now and twice the price on the net. They had a fair bit of blue note but I had em' all except this one. Also got Jimmy Smith "The Cat" and Louis Armstrong  "Satchmo Serenades". Had a look for some real old stuff........Trad, Stride, Boogie Woogie etc  but nothing except a real crappy Bix Beiderbecke comp.Ermm I will keep my eye out though and if a cheapie is there will got one. Somebody is gonna have to do Jelly Roll Morton etc. LOL

This is GREAT (Yes I know, he looks like a gypsy gothic John Cooper Clarke) Eastern European folk music from Armenia as realised by one of the most promising jazz pianists around today. Monk, Bartok, Emerson are all clear influences. Yummy...
