Favourite Solo (any instrument)

All right - this might be entirely unreasonable, due to the massive, massive, massive amount of solos available in jazz music, but any thoughts about/ vids or links to your favourite solo?

There's half a dozen that come to mind but I don't know if I can choose even just two. Will see if I can find youtube links and try.


One for now - though whether it's a solo or just the whole piece itself - Albert Ayler's version of Summertime

From the top of my head, this is one of my fave piano solos (near the end):

There are some favorite solo parts for me. At first it is guitar solo of Zappa.(2:01)

 

Does the vocal section of Acknowledgment from A Love Supreme count? because that's what I want to say.
For some reason I always think of vocal tracks from non-vocal artists )bop-type stuff) as solos

Yes, I've definitely heard that style with so much metal guitar. Will go and put Giant Steps on now actually!

^ Yeah, drum solos are often a tough sell for me but I do like that one too.

This is a tough tough question, but after some consideration my gut is telling me McCoy Tyner's piano solo on Coltrane's My Favorite Things. Grant Green's solo on It Ain't Necessarily so is badass too, as is John Tropea's solo on the Deodato tune December 13.

I have to go through some of my favs and see what comes up. There's too much!

I love that McCoy solo there too - one of my other fav McCoy moments is on Aisha from 'Ole' - and Tropea great on December 13!
