^ one of the first jazz records I ever bought, it was in the cutouts for a couple bucks. I still have it, dig that "Rock Around the Clock" Charlie Haden with wah wah bass, ha.

Rock band in name mostly, at their best, Purple's approach to music resembled an early jazz band with everyone freely riffing during the solos. I don't know of too many other rock bands who could play like that, if any.

Yeah, you're right. That's why Made in Japan was just so iconic, it shows the band at their real state. The studio albums are way more restrained, even though I love them.
