Hi all,

I just started getting back into listening to more jazz after a hiatus of ten years. Here are some of my current favorites and I'd really appreciate it if someone could point me into the direction of similar stuff or tell me which sub-genres of jazz I should look into:

Nuspirit Helsinki - Seis Por Ocho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mkA-gS8uZ8
Jukka Eskola - Siam Square https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIuHpePbkac
Olli Ahvenlahti - Sandy (I do enjoy the whole album which I bought about 11 years ago but this one is my favorite from it) https://open.spotify.com/track/4cjy9vOvmEQHO4PXJttdo

I don't have spotify, but I was able to listen to the first two tracks.
Sounds like you want to check out our Nu Jazz genre, maybe start with early Bugge Weseltoft, I'll be back with more suggestions along that line.
You might also like pop-fusion on the CTI label in the early 70s, I'll look for some examples on that too.

Switching to the CTI label in the 70s, you might like this one by Deodato:

Js, thanks so much for the suggestions! The Bill Laurance and Wojtek Masolewski albums are just what I'm looking for. I also enjoyed the Deodato album quite a bit.

Snobb, thanks also for the recommendation, I think I'm looking for something a bit more accessible though as I'm only starting to get more into jazz.

Another current band that is somewhat similar to what you posted is Snarky Puppy.

Thanks js, I do like Snarky Puppy. It was originally recommended to me some time ago by a former co-worker but thanks for reminding me, I haven't listened to them in a while.

Thanks for the recommendations, here are a few more songs that I've found that I quite like:

Wolfgang Haffner - Bing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQWo4tnUMgA
Christian Scott - The Eraser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF2s2Rh_lnE (I know this is a jazz cover of Thom Yorke but I much prefer this to the original)
The Greg Foat Group - Door into Summer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5qgwnfvf1c

If anyone has more suggestions I'd really appreciate them.

You might like Hidden Orchestra:

There's also Kruder and Dorfmeister.
You could probably find a lot of music similar to those tracks if you used a couple of them to start a new station at Pandora. I know Pandora has a lot of music like that.

Snobb, Thanks for the suggestion, some of Jaga Jazzist's tracks do hit the spot for me.

Js, Thanks also for taking the time to reply, Hidden Orchestra sounds great! Kruder and Dorfmeister steers a bit too close to the late 90s / early 2000s downtempo - chill out sector for me.
I'd love to try Pandora for finding more to listen to but sadly it's not available in Canada.

You might like Nils Petter Molvaer, especially his early albums.
