GoGo Penguin gear up for Blue Note debut and 2016 UK tour
Manchester-based band GoGo Penguin hit the ground running in 2016 with their third album and debut for Blue Note records, Man Made Object, which is released on 5 February just ahead of a 12-date UK tour. The melodically-charged, beat driven trio of pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner have been building momentum since their breakthrough second album, v2.0, was nominated for the 2014 Mercury Music Prize, subsequently gaining a large live following both in the UK and across Europe. Signing to Blue Note in April 2015, Man Made Object
was recorded in Wales and Manchester and is the first of a three album
deal with Blue Note and sees them reunited with Jospeh Reiser and
Brendan Williams who produced v2.0. Ahead of their UK dates
the band make their debut at the New York Winter Jazz Fest on 16 January
before returning home for the following shows: The Gate, Cardiff (6 Feb); Norwich Arts Centre (12 Feb); Warwick Arts Centre (13 Feb); Oran Mor, Glasgow (16 Feb); Lemon Tree, Aberdeen (17 Feb); The Sage, Gateshead (18 Feb); The Wardrobe, Leeds (19 Feb); Band On the Wall, Manchester (20-21 Feb); Glee Club, Birmingham (23 Feb); The Lantern, Bristol (24 Feb) and Village Underground, London (25 Feb). See the February 2016 issue of Jazzwise for an exclusive interview with the band. – Mike Flynn For more info visit http://gogopenguin.co.uk/live/" rel="nofollow - http://gogopenguin.co.uk/live/" rel="nofollow - http://gogopenguin.co.uk/live/" rel="nofollow - - from www.jazzwisemagazine.com
