Hey I got tickets to see Soulive, with opening act Lettuce, tonight in Philadelphia. Rumor has it that John Scofield might make an appearance, who has guested on various albums by both bands. For those who do not know, Soulive and Lettuce are both fronted and founded by guitarist Eric Krasnos. Soulive features brothers Alan and Neal Evans, who've played with various other jazz and funk musicians. Their music is jazz/funk/jam band-fusion. The band has featured John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Maceo Parker, Susan Tedeschi, Karl Denson, Robert Randolph, Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, Fred Wesley, and Sam Kininger as guests on some of their albums. Lettuce is mostly funk/fusion, with Krasnos on guitar, Adam Deitch on drums, and various guests similar to Soulive's; like John Scofield, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker, Sam Kininger, and Nigel Hall. These guys bring the in the pocket funk of James Brown, with more jazzy twists and super tight rhythms. I'd go crazy if Maceo Parker or Fred Wesley show up. There's a good chance of it. Also, Scofield. Either way it's going to be a fantastic show. First time seeing both of these bands. I did see Chapter 2, which is a Eric Krasnos side project, which had Adam Deitch on drums and Nigel Hall of keys. I saw them opening for Umphrey's McGee, also in Philly. Crazy show. Lots of funk jams all night; a little bit of jazz, especially from Soulive. There was a 3 piece horn section for both acts. One of the best shows Ive ever seen. Im too tired to talk about it, but tomorrow night after work I'll go into it.

I basically described the show in my above post. Funky riffs galore, nice full sound. Even though I was only about 5-6 people from stage (it was general admission), the sound was not grating my ears. The jams were sweet. I recommend anyone into jazz or funk to see these guys if they come around your area.

I would say so. Their sound is more in your face than on the studio albums (which are good themselves)
