Yeah! I've been writing it for a few years now, and have a small chapbook published here in Oz actually. I love how difficult it can be to write, and how powerful to read (especially the masters, Issa, Basho etc) But last year I started getting into the gendai movement and it blew me away. Like Watanabe Hakusen and others who were imprisoned for their art! Or this: like squids —Kaneko Tōta (trans. Makoto Ueda) Really made me want to push haiku beyond common 'nature' or 'zen moment' stuff. Dear me, look at me ramble - sorry to bombard you with all this, you probably know it all better than I, Keishiro!!! So what's the state of haiku like in Japan at the moment?
