The UK-based imprint’s early 2024 releases include the debut recording of sax star Potter’s heavyweight Quartet that features piano luminary Brad Mehldau and Wayne Shorter’s former rhythm section of John Patitucci and Brian Blade

Early 2024 sees the UK-based Edition Records imprint release a diverse array of albums, topped by a new all-star recording from preeminent saxophonist Chris Potter. His latest LP, Eagle’s Point, released 8 March, features modern-day jazz masters Brad Mehldau, John Patitucci and Brian Blade for their debut recording as a group. Capturing the band in an all-acoustic studio setting with pianist Mehldau making a rare sideman appearance, Potter said of the sessions: "Working with Brad, John, and Brian, who have been among my favourite musicians since our initial collaborations in the early 1990s, was exhilarating. This project was not just fun to create but also deeply inspiring, given the profound artistry and emotional depth they infuse into every note."

Further new Edition releases include fast rising pianist Joe Webb who releases his debut on the label in the form of his Collblanc EP (26 January), which blends Webb’s virtuoso keys playing with influences drawn from 1990s guitar bands and his love for football. There’s also a new set from Norwegian composer/tuba master Daniel Herskedal unveils his new, more experimental side on his new ambient-jazz set, A Single Sunbeam (1 Mar), which features a mix of classical, improv, and cinematic sounscapes.

Former Polar Bear Brit-jazz sax maestro Mark Lockheart returns with a sparkling new set, the aptly titled, Smiling (29 Mar), which effortlessly blends punchy jazz-rock sounds with multi-layered arrangements of flute, sax, and electric guitar over rock-edged grooves. Renowned Finnish quinteOddarrang celebrate their 20th anniversary with an eponymously titled album (5 Mar) which featuring their distinctive blend of electronica/drums/guitar sounds. And rounding off this first quarter is the new album Stream (5 May), from multi-award-winning Scottish pianist Fergus McCreadie, who continues his exploration of nature-inspired themes combining Scottish folklore with contemporary jazz, while Danish bass virtuoso Jasper Høiby releases the second in his new series of trio recordings with his 3Elements groups – this time with Like Water (31 May) featuring emerging pianist Chaerin Im and drummer Jamie Peet for a set of groove-led originals.
