Artbook publisher Taschen has released a new book covering the history of jazz LP covers

A new book has been published, charting the history of jazz album covers in the 20ths century as stand-alone pieces of art and design - Jazz Covers.

The book, released by German art book publisher Taschen, has been put together by the author Joaquim Paulo and editor Julius Wiedemann and promises “a treasure trove of creative and cultural inspiration”. The new work showcases LP artwork from the 1940s up to the 1990s.

Tracing half a century of history and clocking up to over 500 pages, each entry includes a fact sheet and essential background information about the designs, including the personnel on the record, as well as the art director, photographer, illustrator and more.

The albums included within the book span the work of Sarah Vaughan, Lee Morgan, Donald Byrd, Roy Ayers, Archie Shepp, Duke Ellington and more.

The book is available in English, French and German and is out now.
