ECM concert series and exhibition in Shanghai

The Chinese town of Shanghai will be the site of a concert series and exhibition dedicated to ECM from mid-April into mid-May 2016.  It is the first such event in China, and follows on from a highly successful ECM festival and exhibition in Seoul, South Korea, in 2013.

With concerts by Anouar Brahem, Egberto Gismonti, the Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet, Susanne Abbuehl, the Keller Quartet, and Maestro Myung Whun Chung conducting the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, ECM’s worlds of improvisation  and interpretation will be addressed.

The concert dates:

Opening concert: Egberto Gismonti solo
April 17th: Shanghai Symphony Hall

May 6th:
Shanghai Symphony Hall: Myung Whun Chung conducts Arvo Pärt’s Fratres and Credo.
Shanghai Chamber Hall: Keller Quartet play Bach’s The Art of Fugue

May 7th:
Shanghai Symphony Hall: Myung Whun Chung plays Schubert, Schumann, Chopin and Brahms
Shanghai Chamber Hall: Tomasz Stanko New York Quartet, with Alexi Tuomarila, Reuben Rogers and Gerald Cleaver

May 8th:
Shanghai Symphony Hall: Anouar Brahem Quartet with François Couturier, Klaus Gesing and Björn Meyer
Shanghai Chamber Hall: Susanne Abbuehl Quartet with Matthieu Michel, Wolfert Brederode and Øyvind Hegg-Lunde

The exhibition, showcasing the works of musicians, artists, photographers and filmmakers associated with ECM, will run from April 16th-May 11th.
