In the late 60s a whole new sound came blasting out of AM radios, it was Sly and the Family Stone singing 'Dance to the Music' and 'Higher'. This was revolutionary, a sound never heard before and it hit like a nuclear blast.
Right before he died, Sly released his auto-bio which is well worth a read.

Many considered Sly and the Family Stone to be the top act at Woodstock.
