Verve Records has announced a new album from the late jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove. The album, Grande-Terre, is attributed to the ensemble Roy Hargrove’s Crisol, and it comes out on October 18. Below, listen to the new track “Priorities.”

Roy Hargrove’s Crisol released just one studio album, Habana, during the titular bandleaders’s lifetime. It earned Hargrove and the group the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance.

Featured on the award-winning record were trumpeter and flugelhorn player Hargrove; trombonist Frank Lacy; soprano and tenor saxophonist David Sánchez; alto and soprano saxophonist Gary Bartz; bassist John Benitez; percussionists Miguel “Anga” Díaz and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana; drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernández; guitarist Russell Malone; and pianist Chucho Valdés.

Many of the musicians returned to the studio after Habana to create what is now being released as Grande-Terre. The returning players on the new album are: Roy Hargrove, Frank Lacy, Miguel “Anga” Díaz, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana. New additions to the ensemble include: alto saxophonist Sherman Irby; tenor saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart; pianists Gabriel Hernández and Larry Willis; guitarist Ed Cherry; bassist Gerald Cannon; drummer and vocalist Julio Barreto; and drummer Willie Jones.

Roy Hargrove died, in 2018, at the age of 49. Read “Send It On: Roy Hargrove’s Immaculate Blend of Jazz, Hip-Hop, and R&B” on the Pitch.
