Bob Reynolds is a tenor player who plays contemporary jazz and modern fusion. On "Live at the Blue Whale", he and his band seem to channel an almost mid-60s sound, reminiscent of when soul jazz/hard bop players began to experiment with a rock/RnB type back beat, much like the music of Adderly and Zawinul.
Very natural unpretentious jam band music, but unfortunately the recording is a bit raw, although that does fit the nature of the music as well.

I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...
