The Oslo Jazz Festival 2020 program is homegrown, and very good. This year, the Oslo Jazz Festival will present a solid and varied program that shows the breadth of the festival's musical identity and what’s going on in the jazz scene in and around the city of Oslo.

– This year we will celebrate the jazz capital by presenting a selection of the many wonderful musicians living in Oslo and its surroundings, says festival director Øyvind S. Larsen.

The traditional opening concert will be held by Oslo Jazz Ensemble, who previously went by the name Ensemble Denada, with guests Torun Eriksen, Arild Andersen, Ellen Andrea Wang and Kalle Moberg in Marmorsalen at Sentralen on Wednesday 12th August.

The opening concert will be broadcast live on radio by NRK Jazz. This concert, along with the rest of the main program at Nasjonal Jazzscene Victoria will also be streamed free of charge via our Facebook account and our international media partner Jazz Wise Magazine.

In addition to this we can offer the following program:

August 13:

  • Daniela Reyes w / Eyolf Dale, Håkon Aase, Ole Morten Vågan & Hans Hulbækmo (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Magnolia Jazz Band w / Beate Lech (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Ellen Andrea Wang & Jon Balke (National jazzscene Victoria)

August 14:

  • Knut Riisnæs Quartet with Siril Malmedal Hauge (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Finity (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Espen Eriksen Trio (National jazzscene Victoria)

August 15:

  • Siril Malmedal Hauge & Jacob Young (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Wako (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • The Source (quartet) (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Arild Andersen - Legend (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Fieh (Salt)

August 16:

  • Kongle Trio (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Emmeluth's Amoeba (National jazzscene Victoria)
  • Erlend Apneseth's Fragmentarium (National jazzscene Victoria)

Free shows with future jazz stars

Oslo Jazz Festival will this year offer a string of free concerts at Salt from Thursday to Saturday. Here, the Oslo audience will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the future of jazz, with Nordic Showcase concerts (with Norwegian focus this year) and other young jazz bands presented by Jazzpurk, Serendip and Norsk Jazzforum's Jazzintro, in addition to a concert with the youth bigband AOJO. All of these concerts will be free!

Nordic Showcase is Oslo Jazz Festival’s talent development program for young talented bands and music students. The chosen Nordic Showcase bands for 2020 are Bêl, Miriam Kibakaya Concept, New Banke, Franklin, Bliss and Orun Quartet.

- Previously, you’ve been able to discover bands like Juno, Kongle Trio, I Like To Sleep and Master Oogway at Oslo Jazz Festival's Nordic Showcase evenings, so there’s a good chance you’ll discover some unknown jems here, says Øyvind S. Larsen.
