Mahogany Frog is an instrumental band, comprised of four multi-instrumentalists and based out of Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Their music draws from a wide range of influences such as: eariy 20th century classical music, 50's lounge/exotica, '60s psychedelia, '70s progressive/kraut-rock, fusion, contemporary electronica and ambient/experimentalism. Using a vast array of keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and walls of electronics, the group creates dynamic, multi-layered songs which explore tone, mood and composition. Although Mahogany Frog's unorthodox sounds and complex arrangements can challenge the listener, their haunting progressions and playful melodies are immediately catchy and satisfying.

"SENNA by Mahogany Frog" is the group's sixth full-length release. Lush with soaring synth-scapes, waves of blistering guitar feedback and sound-art segments consisting of field recordings, tape collage and analogue electronically-generated sounds, it is easily their heaviest and most challenging record to date. Often the music is hot and gritty, capturing the power of the band's live performance: the rhythm section throttles forward fiercely, laying a foundation for rapidly shifting melodic themes and sounds. At times the material is exploratory and dramatic, displaying layers of MIDI-controlled sequencers, razor-crisp glitch-beats, moody tonal washes and infectiou grooves. The orchestration on "SENNA" is largely mysterious, with highly overdriven, reverb-drenched synths, guitars and electronics trading roles and smoothly and swiftly. Along with the enthusiasm and tonal proficiency of engineer Jean Paul Peters',Mahogany Frog have created a cinematic art-rock masterpiece that aims to re-evaluate the conventional roles of instruments and how they contribute to a broader composition.

“As ungainly, unwieldy, and chameleonic as their name, they also aspire to a much higher level of art rock than many current contemporary ensembles.”
- Michael Nastos, All Music Guide by ROVI

“Highly original, compelling and – above all – viscerally exciting music from a powerfully cohesive yet explosively dynamic band. Strongly recommended to anyone who likes unashamedly grandiloquent psychedelic jazz-rock.”
– Chris Parker, Vortex Jazz, UK

"Colorful music from a Canadian quartet from Winnipeg that fuse elements of noise and brutal prog with a big helping of Canterbury-style jazz rock. Recommended if you like Stereolab, Tortoise, Soft Machine. This unique Winnipeg four-piece masterfully combines colourful melodic washes and structure with lyrical polyrythms, all with kamakazi determination. Carefully conceived compositions decoded with keyboards, guitars, horns, samples, effects and percussion."
- Wayside Music, USA

"DO5 demonstrates what might happen if Radiohead and Sigur Rós were put into a blender with Pink Floyd, Yes and Genesis, then dropping the vocals. ... Mahogany Frog suggests, perhaps, one possible future of progressive rock, bringing together elements of electronica, ambient, industrial and jazz into the more familiar terrain of detailed, long-form writing, odd meters and neoclassicism."
- All About Jazz

Coming out next month: DOUBT "Mercy, Pity, Peace & Love"
