Reviews on jazz sites tend to be of a high quality and are written by knowledgable writers with a noticeable and obvious background in jazz music. To compete with other jazz sites and attract possible jazz fans to JMA, we must also have high standards in our reviews.

As is typical on any reputable jazz site, any review submitted to JMA may be edited or possibly refused depending on its content.

We mostly ask that people write about artists and musical styles that they are knowledgeable about. We do not expect everyone to write like a "professional", but please give it your best shot.
Keep in mind that this is a jazz site and we expect our writers to be jazz fans. Reviews that are dismissive of large portions of the jazz lexicon or history can come across as illogical on a jazz site and can be damaging to our integrity.
If there are styles of jazz that you are not fond of, or have little understanding of or experience with, please do not write about those styles.

Try not to make the review about what you like or do not like. The reader wants to learn about the artist and his music, not the reviewer's taste in music.
We also do not want reviews that were written for another site and then transferred here. We only want reviews that are written for this site only.

Compared to other jazz sites, we probably have the least stringent guidelines out there, but even a site as inclusive as this one must draw the line sometimes.
Few reviews on this site have been refused, but more than likely, if we refuse a review, it probably would not be accepted by any other reputable jazz site either.

The number one goal for this site is to provide accurate information on the history of jazz music.

Reviews submitted to JMA are the property of both JMA and the reviewer, and those reviews should not be removed from the site. Removing reviews from the site will get you banned from JMA permanently.

Sounds good, and I agree. We've got it pretty damn good in terms of guidelines, it's great.
