Dear Friendly Experiencers,

We have lots of news this month. First, we are happy to report that many back catalog Braxton House and New Braxton House albums have now been added to our Bandcamp page. Please check them out.

We would also like to bring your attention to our other online label, Tri-Centric Forum, which has been quietly releasing recordings from the Tri-Centric Commissioning Series. Newly added is Rivers We Have Crossed by Joseph Daley which was performed by the Tri-Centric Orchestra in November 2015. From the original program notes by Mr. Daley: "This composition is based on the concepts of commemoration and continuation. This moment focuses on the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the surrounding marches and acts of civil disobedience that led to legislation that was presented and signed by President Johnson after viewing the horrors of “Bloody Sunday”. I am honored to use my craft to make a statement of respect for past achievements and also to support present and future activists as they fight to maintain the rights that were achieved while they push forward to new crusades in their quest for true equality for all."

[Face the Music]

Tri-Centric has been working with the wonderful students of Kaufman Music Center's youth ensemble Face the Music which is dedicated to studying and performing the works of living composers. On June 10th at the Jazz Gallery (NYC), Face the Music student ensembles will perform Anthony Braxton works including Composition Nos. 55, 192, 69B and Language Music (more info here). Preceding the concert will be a workshop on Braxton's musical systems led by Taylor Ho Bynum. Advanced tickets highly recommended for both events.
[Essential Anthony Braxton – The Arista Years]

On June 1, 2018, Sony Music Entertainment's Legacy Recordings will release a curated 16-track compilation digital album culled from Anthony Braxton's Arista catalog. Please be on the look out for Essential Anthony Braxton – The Arista Years on various streaming and download platforms. Timothy J. Smith, Digital Catalog Research & Development's Director of A&R at Legacy Recordings, has this to say about the release (interview conducted via email):

"In the current age of audio streaming as a primary mode of commercial music consumption – our role as curators of the Sony Music Entertainment back catalog is to look at our Artists repertoire and adapt and deliver those discographies to digital service providers in a cohesive manner.

As a majority of Mr. Braxton’s Arista catalog was previously unavailable at digital service providers – we found the vibrant original album catalog remasters (by the esteemed engineer Mark Wilder at Battery Studios - 8 nominations and 4 Grammys) provided to Mosiac for their 2008 box set ‘The Complete Arista Recordings’ the ideal sources to base our download and streaming versions upon. ‘The Essential’ compilation we are releasing serves as more of an ‘Anthony Braxton 101’ for those entry level listeners who may seem daunted by such a vast catalog. With the help of very insightful fans of Mr. Braxton’s work on staff – the most resilient representations of AB’s Arista career were culled for the focused 16 track 2+ hour collection."

Best,
Tri-Centric Team
