I was about to post this in the thread that is about your all-time favorite artists, but realized a new thread should be started about recent favorites.

Hmm, I've been listening to a lot of jazz-inspired hip hop lately and acid jazz.
Here are some: BadBadNotGood Hocus Pocus Thundercat Nujabes Common Then, probably Medeski, Martin & Wood.

I think the problem with a lot of the fusion music is that it's extremely predictable, it's a rock rhythm and the solos all play the same stuff and they play it over and over again ...

Doing evals for the site I get to hear several great new artists everyday. A couple that have stood out recently include the electro jazz-rock of NHX and the hard bop of Chris Colangelo. Probably the artist that has grown on me the most over the last couple months though is Charlie Parker.

I am interested in all subgenres than an artist. The work of the site lets search feeling always overflow for me. And it always changes.

I re-listen a lot of John Coltrane (mostly AG-period but some hard bop as well) with big pleasure now. And Alice Coltrane's music as well

Granted I understand this correctly, then I introduced of late just one artist in my hall of fame, him being Bill Dixon. Amazing free-jazz musician, four or five outstanding works at least and none of those being the appointedly classic Intents and Purposes (or maybe it's the original '67 tape that irks me; gotta check out the remaster).
Of new artists I checked comprehensively, there's McCoy Tyner, but I don't like him much (thanks for nothing, Hugues ![]() ![]() Particular albums I saved: Lou Donaldson's Blues Walk, Hampton Hawes' For Real! (both after seeing them reviewed here, cheers) and Maarten Altena Quartet's Rondendans, which I sort of really liked. New albums: Scott Fields & Matthias Schubert, Thomas Heberer, maybe. I like Marilyn Mazur's new album a lot, but liking Mazur in itself isn't new. |

I like Marilyn Mazur's music as rule - her new album is between her bests. But as almost with any her release I like some moments ,but there are some fillers as well (or albums are usually quite bulky). I saw her playing live two or three years ago on open-air summer fest in seaside town - it was night concert where he played with her world fusion band (violinist, keyboards, etc) for few thousand listeners on scene ,placed on main square of Old town, between Jugend buildings. Absolutely fantastic show - kind of voodoo or shaman's ritual magic. No her album could be compared with this

Been enjoying this band called Fortadelis. All their albums are free to download. http://www.jamendo.com/en/artist/tomislav.ocvirek
I'd say check out their albums FUNKTIONAL or Convergence first. |

mid-late 50s Miles Davis, and late-50s/early 60s John Coltrane is what I've been digging lately.
