Since 2007, the NYJC charity has been uncovering the UK’s finest young jazz talent and treating them to an in-depth week of tutoring and playing: discovering and learning with others of their own age and stage.
To celebrate the organisation’s 10th birthday, a whole day of workshops and concerts have been organised next Saturday 12 August at Kings Place near Kings Cross in London, and an exhibition will showcase 100 years of recorded jazz. Leading musicians from the UK jazz scene will perform in the all-star evening concert, including some unique collaborations (For example, NYJC President Dave Holland and Vice President Julian Joseph will be performing together for the first time). NYJC Founder and Artistic Director Issie Barratt says: “It will be like a kaleidoscope. We want to celebrate the musicians in the room (all of whom have close ties to NYJC) alongside all the people they have played with over the years. Together, they have written a large part of our jazz history, with all its different heritages and styles – I want the evening to celebrate in a unique, once-in-a-lifetime way the incredible variety of British jazz.” The full day schedule: Saturday 12 August 10:30 Morning workshops – ages 8–18 The all star lineup Bass: Dave Holland, Mark Hodgson Tickets for the evening concert are available at www.kingsplace.co.uk/NYJCat10, all profits will go to the work of NYJC. from www.jazzfm.com |
