Garrison is a true innovator in the realm of modern jazz, and he also composes for a wide range of ensembles such as singer/piano, music for 3 pianos to large-scale pieces for jazz nonet, all the way to full-out Big Band. His music is adventurous and original, making full use of ensembles, forms, textures and harmonies that all fall within the category of ‘avant garde.’ As he puts it, “Music is pre-verbal energy and modern Jazz music is greater than the sum of its parts. It is a collaboration which requires the best of all players.”
