Abstract Logix have establshed themselves as a label issuing some excellent jazz fusion in the last 5 years - including a couple of great McLaughlin albums, at least one each from Alex Machacek, Gary Husband. Wayne Krantz's Krantz, Carlock Lefevbre (also Abstract) was my favourite jazz rock album the year of its release.  And who recorded that knock bassoon jazz fusion album on Abstract???? Elephant9's Dodo Voodoo was a most excellent  tribute to early jazz rockers and didn't come off my player for a very long time - although their more recent Walk The Nile didn't work so well for me. Many of those albums  (7?) based on a 43 minute drum solo track by Marcus Minnemann, worked e.g. Alex Machacek's, Mike Keneally's, John Czajkowski's, etc.. At least a couple of excellent world fusion albums were issued by Nguyen Le. Thumbs up for Art Metal - good to see the Johansson brothers doing jazzy things again - Jens IMHO is wasted doing metal prog . Talking of Swedish drum and keyboard players, mustn't forget Mats Morgan Band's issues  and reissues from Cuneform. And let's hear one for (John Czajkowski's) Hectic Watermelon's Great American Road Trip.  (Also loved Paul Anka's Rock Also Swings album).

Have to say too little issued by Bugge Wesseltoff over this period. etc - for instance I would love to hear more collaboration with John Scofield. And about time we had more from Allan Holdsworth - although I  think Blues For Tony just about sneaks into the time slot.

Away from maninstream jazz rock fusion, Seb Rochford's Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear produced some excellent albums.

Hammeriver - Hammeriver
Steve Coleman - Harvesting Semblances and Affinities
Anouar Brahem - The Astounding Eyes of Rita

Your post inspired me to check out Elephant9 (been seeing that name around a lot), so I ordered that album. How's their other album?

Just as good for me, yet giving their first a slight edge.
I wish I'd have rather inspired you tocheck out Hammeriver or Coleman. Killuhrs! Tongue

I would like to check out the rest of those titles. What style are the rest of those albums?

E.S.T. plunging into a black hole, Leb Bib avant-jazzy, while Jean Louis even avant-jazzier (imagine the entire RIO/Avant PA team jizzing over it), Hammeriver nu-jazz going on electro-acoustic and Wadada, Coleman & Brahem are pretty much themselves.

For me, the first that comes to mind is this one from the World Fusion genre:

Old Grooves for New Streets - Way Out West.

Now for the sickening plug  Wink

And you can hear samples here at the label's page

I seem to remember you not very enthusiastic about it! Shocked

But I may be wrong.

Probably something else you remember, this one almost made my top 10 last year.

Lately I've been enjoying Chris Colangelo, any of his recent CDs will do.

What do you consider the best albums of the last 5 years? I feel like the last few years have been some of the best years for new music, and jazz is no exception.

Some of my favorites are

Hiromi - Time Control
Medeski Martin & Wood - Radiolarians I, II, and III
Stanley Clarke Trio - Jazz In The Garden
Bela Fleck & The Flecktones - Rocket Science
Chick Corea & John McLaughlin - Five Peace Band Live
Jonas Hellborg - Art Metal
