Sam Pannunzio studied accordion at an early age. He discovered that accordion music was a novel sound and was not for everyone, so at about the age of sixteen he switched to the piano and studied with a local teacher.
In the early 60’s the NORAD Band was stationed in Colorado Springs so he had the opportunity of studying with Al Green (Urbie Green’s brother) He was fortunate enough to go on the road with the Lee Arellano Trio from Denver right out of high school and play Las Vegas, California and Texas. He studied at the Berklee School of Music, in Boston. At that time all kinds of great musicians were there: Richie Cole, Alan Broadbent, and many more. He studied with Charlie Mariano and Ray Santisi (piano player with Mel Torme at the time).
