jazz and fusion albums that came out after 1980 and are considered ( At least ) innovative ?

Yes, lots and lots. First you might want to look at Blood Ulmer and Ronald Shannon Jackson.

Power Tools was a short lived, but excellent modern fusion band with Jackson on drums.

Are Ulmer and Jackson from the same band ?

They played together sometimes, and also led their own bands.

Another good one is Ornette Coleman's Prime Time Band.
