Congratulations to Dino Saluzzi who has been named as the winner of the Premio Konex de Brillante, one of Argentina’s highest awards. The Konex Foundation’s prize for Argentinean popular music is given once a decade, and Saluzzi joins a list of winners which has included Atahualpa Yupanqui (1985), Mercedes Sosa (1995) and Horacio Salgán (2005). The presentation ceremony for the ‘Diamond Konex’ will take place on November 10 in Buenos Aires’ Konex Cultural Centre.

Dino Sauzzi, Salta-born bandoneon master, improviser and composer of music beyond genre celebrated his 80th birthday earlier this year. He has been an ECM artist since 1982, and his discography includes solo music, duets and trios, chamber music, orchestral works, meetings with classical and jazz musicians and ongoing collaboration with members of his family. His most recent release is Imágenes, an album of pieces for piano, played by Horacio Lavandera. Dino is, with cellist Anja Lechner, the subject of the documentary El Encuentro, and his evocative and expressive music has been incorporated into films by directors including Jean Luc Godard and Pedro Almodóvar.
