Jazz on the silver screen will be celebrated at the Curzon Cinema in Bloomsbury, near London’s Russell Square, during the first weekend in August, with a selection of films, playbacks of rare recordings and historical talks, featuring Jazzwise’s own Selwyn Harris. The ‘All That Jazz’ weekend is a part of the Summer of Sound series at Curzon cinemas and is “full of offbeat and classic treats”, according to Curzon magazine editor Ian Haydn Smith. Six films will be shown across Saturday 1 - Sunday 2 August, along with a 30-minute talk on the significance of the year 1959 in jazz history, featuring rare recorded performances by key musicians.

Films being shown on Saturday are Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless (1 August, 2.30pm), François Truffaut’s Shoot the Piano Player (1 August, 4.45pm) and Lift to the Scaffold, with a now famous score by Miles Davis (1 August, 7pm).  Sunday’s programme includes Jean Bach's 1994 documentary A Great Day in Harlem (2 August, 1.30pm), Scottish filmmaker Alexander Mackendrick's Sweet Smell of Success (2 August, 4.15pm) and Shadows, scored by Charles Mingus (2 August, 6.30pm)
