Pat Metheny Named Detroit Jazz Fest Artist-in-Residence

Pat Metheny has been named the Artist-in-Residence for this year's Detroit Jazz Festival, according to a press release. The release noted that guitarist Metheny will reunite on the festival’s opening night with vibraphonist Gary Burton in a quartet featuring bassist Scott Colley and drummer Antonio Sanchez. Metheny, Colley and Sanchez will also perform with guest saxophonist Kenny Garrett. Metheny will also play in a duo with bassist Ron Carter and,, according to the release, in "an ambitious large ensemble, consisting of the Detroit Jazz Festival Orchestra and the North American premier of Metheny's latest 30 minute suite, a tribute to German bassist Eberhard Weber." 

Metheny will also “take part in educational initiatives, including mentoring young metro Detroit musicians in the coming months.”

The free Detroit Jazz Festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7.
