Arturo O’Farrill to Perform Solo Piano Show in NYC

Arturo O'Farrill will perform a rare, solo piano show as part of a preview event for the documentary Oye Cuba! A Journey Home March 23 at DROM in New York, at 9 p.m. The venue is located at 85 Avenue A (at East 6th St). The filmmaker Diane Sylvester will screen the film and both O'Farrill and Sylvester will offer comments and answer questions. Oye Cuba! A Journey Home, according to a press release, was shot over a six-year period and chronicles O'Farrill's “passionate mission to reconnect with Cuba, the homeland of his legendary father, Latin jazz composer and big bandleader Chico O'Farrill.”

The event evening will include a silent auction featuring a handmade art quilt by Brooklyn-based artist Sylvia Hernandez; photo lessons; a two-hour portrait session with photojournalist Damaso Reyes; and tickets to a Radio City Music Hall Spectacular show. Proceeds from the entire evening's festivities will go toward supporting the completion of the film.
