Pretty straightforward question: Which duo configuration do you like most in your jazz.

Obviously the main deficit here is only 25 options, and many more duo configurations exist. I tried to stick to common instruments and avoid pair the same instrument with itself. So, please explain 'other' votes. Also, can't say for certain a few of these have large bodies of work to refer to.

If I repeated one I'll replace it with something else.

I voted for piano and double bass, Bill Evans with Scott LaFarro or Gary Peacock. Smile

difficult question since duo is far not my favorite format, voted for piano-bass as well

I actually agree. I like my bands big/with as many voices as possible. But I was thinking about this o'er the weekend, so I thought I'd open it up to the forum at large.

Also, good choices for the both of you.

For me, it's definitely one with drums. Tongue I just can't decide between piano, saxophone, or guitar.

Tenor saxophone and drums would be cool, how about John Gilmore with Rashied Ali or Denardo Coleman.

Piano and drums for me, I'd love to Hancock and ... well, let me have a think about the drummer!

I like that idea...esp with Coleman. Are there any albums out there with Gilmore & Coleman?

Unfortunately not, at least as far as I know. Gilmore mostly played with Sun Ra, with just a few dates outside of that. Denardo mostly played with his Dad, although I may need to check out what else he did.

Now it all comes back, Blood Ulmer's "Captain Black", thats one of Denardo's best, he's on some other artist albums too.

That's what I thought. Shame Denardo hasn't branchedout more (or at least if he has that stuff not getting recorded).
