BADBADNOTGOOD, Emma-Jean Thackray, Nala Sinephro, Azymuth, The Comet is Coming, Underground Resistance and more confirmed

We Out Here Festival has announced a first tranche of 80 artists performing at next summer’s edition: uniting an eclectic programme of live music and DJs for another four-day celebration of much-loved music heroes and emerging talent. Curated by broadcaster and DJ Gilles Peterson, in association with Worldwide FM & Brownswood Recordings, the festival returns for its third year at Abbots Ripton off the back of 2021’s sell-out edition.

Leading the live programme highlights, Toronto’s BADBADNOTGOOD join the line-up, alongside international talents BCUC representing South African high energy, Napoli’s Nu Genea with a full live band, and legendary Brazilian jazz-funk trio Azymuth. Other leading lights in their respective sounds: Broken Beat originator Kaidi Tatham, Detroit’s Underground Resistance with a “hi-tech jazz show” and multi-instrumentalist Kahil El’Zabar, with his quartet, will also be performing.

The ever-bright UK jazz scene, a key part of the festival programme, is represented with scene staples Emma-Jean Thackray, Nala Sinephro and the return of The Comet is Coming with their exhilarating blend of jazz, electronic and psychedelic rock. Meanwhile the South-West’s vibrant scene is celebrated by Worm Discs presents: “A Bristol Takeover” and emerging fusion artists Jelly Cleaver, Vels Trio and Rosie Frater-Taylor share their interpretation of the genre with punk, DIY and experimental approaches.

Following an unstoppable year, Overmono join the line up with their live show, and producer Elkka is also set to play a highly-anticipated live electronic show. Enigmatic rapper John Glacier, genre-bending Obongjayar and twenty-piece band New Regency Orchestra, reinventing Afro-Cuban classics with a modern London twist, round off the wide-spanning live programming.

Meanwhile across the DJ line up, We Out Here continues to showcase some of the world’s best record collections and celebrate club culture’s far-reaching influences. On a UK tip, Hessle Audio celebrate 15 years of the seminal imprint, featuring a full house of Ben UFO, Pangaea and Pearson Sound with special guests to be announced, dancefloor maverick Goldie and Electric Chair’s Luke Una provide a heritage touch and much-loved radio host Charlie Bones lines up to run a Do!!You!!! all-day roller skating session.

We Out Here festival favourites Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, Alexander Nut, Mr Scruff and Touching Bass’s Alex Rita & Errol all make a welcome return to the programme, alongside new faces currently making waves on UK dancefloors: Jossy Mitsu, Parris, Tim Reaper and Yung Singh. Other highlights include Dub Reggae legend Jah Shaka, ingenious producer Maurice Fulton and House Music innovator Louie Vega.

Alongside the musical programme, We Out Here offers a range of wellness, family and cultural activities; from talks to an independent record fair, wild swimming and a roller disco. Full details to be announced early next year, along with many more names adding to the line up.
