I've never had a chance to explore jazz in New York. What I like is "mainstream jazz" not too far from what peaked in 1945-65 -- no fusion,  no electric.

I'll be in NYC the week of Labor Day. So I'm missing the re-opening of the Village Vanguard, which I'd love to go to just because it's the Village Vanguard. I'm surprised to see Birdland, the shrine of the bebop era, has only one day that week that's close to my interest.

One added wish: I don't like places that are too loud. I'd greatly appreciate recommendations!

Check out Dizzy's Club Coca Cola (maybe now called Dizzy's Club) within the Jazz at Lincoln Center Complex. Also there could be things going on at the Lincoln Center too. The center also includes a record store, exhibits and more.
