It has just been announced that the Royal Academy of
Music will have a mini-festival over two nights to mark the ECM Records
50th Anniversary.
30 January, 7.30 pm Susie Sainsbury Theatre
The Academy Jazz Ensemble will be performing works from Anders Jormin’s ECM release Ad Lucem and pianist Craig Taborn will present a selection of his own compositions (30 Jan).
“In the first half of this concert, one of Scandinavia’s foremost
jazz bassists, Anders Jormin, presents music on which he has been
working with Academy students, including compositions from his acclaimed
ECM release, Ad Lucem. A staple of ECM’s roster for 30 years, Jormin
first appeared on the label in the bands of Bobo Stenson, Charles Lloyd
and Tomasz Stańko, before making his 2011 album, Xieyi.
After the interval, pianist Craig Taborn presents a selection of
his own compositions. Hailed by DownBeat as ‘one of the visionaries of
the current wave’, Taborn made his ECM debut with Roscoe Mitchell’s Note
Factory before releasing his solo album, Avenging Angel, in 2011.”
