This was played based on feel, with some randomness mixed in, and a lot of haphazard just trying to follow it where it goes and play expressively so to speak. Is it a good example of atonal music? Does it sound ok, or just like someone who doesn't know how to play pretending they do?

Atonal music generally refers to music with no particular tonal center, all 12 notes are more or less equal.

The piece you have provided is not really atonal because it is mostly centered around the key of Db Major with strong pedal points centered around the notes Db and Gb.

There are a lot of notes added that are outside this scale, but still, that Db tonality tends to dominate.
